Definition: Menstrual Cycle

The menstrual cycle is a monthly cycle in women, starting from the end of the previous period to the end of the next menstruation. The cycle is divided into three phases or stages, namely the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase.

The menstrual cycle is usually about 28 days (4 weeks lunar month), although it can vary from woman to woman. This cycle is stopped temporarily during pregnancy and after menopause permanently.
