WOMEN'S MENSTRUAL CYCLE
Posted by Unknown on Saturday, November 24, 2012
Menstruation is the release of the uterine lining (endometrium) accompanied by bleeding and occurs every month except during pregnancy. Menstruation happens continuously every month called the menstrual cycle. menstruation usually occurs at age 11 and lasts until your menopause (usually around age 45-55 years). Normally, the period lasts for 3-7 days.
Menstrual cycles vary among women and nearly 90% of women have a cycle of 25-35 days and only 10-15% have a long cycle of 28 days, but some women have irregular cycles and this could be an indication of fertility problems.
The length of the menstrual cycle is calculated from the first day of her menstrual period - the day when the bleeding starts is called the first day and then counted up to the last day - the first day of the following month before menstrual bleeding begins.
A woman has two ovaries which each hold about 200,000 to 400,000 immature eggs / follicles (follicles). Normally, only one or a few eggs that grow every menstrual period and about 14 days before the next menstrual period, when the egg has been cooked then the egg is released from the ovary and then walked to the fallopian tubes to be fertilized later. The process of release is called "ovulation".
At the beginning of the cycle, a gland in the brain releases a hormone called Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) into the bloodstream thus making the egg cells growing inside the ovary. One or more eggs then grow faster than other eggs and become dominant until then begin to produce a hormone called estrogen that is released into the bloodstream. Cooperation with the hormone estrogen hormone FSH helping the dominant egg grows and then give the signal to the uterus in order to prepare to receive the egg. Hormone estrogen also produce more mucus in the vagina to help the survival of sperm after having sex.
When the egg has matured, a hormone released from the brain called the Luteinizing Hormone (LH). This hormone is released in large quantities and trigger the release of a mature egg from the ovary into the fallopian tubes. If at this time, healthy sperm into the fallopian tube, the egg has a great opportunity to be fertilized.
Fertilized egg cell requires several days to walk to the fallopian tubes, uterus and ultimately reaching "embed themselves" in the womb. Then, the egg will divide and produce the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG), which can be detected by GEATEL ®. Hormone helps the growth of the embryo in the uterus.
If the egg that has been released is not fertilized, the endometrium will disintegrate and the process of the next menstruation.
